Compulsion will never work; has never worked, in the matter of Religion! The main reasons behind this are:
i. The Guidance is only from Allah (سبحانه و تعالي) and no one can push another person to guidance, be it his or her kids, parents or spouse or friends or students or whoever!!
ii. The reward of deeds are according to its intention. Hence even if we compel a person and he or she is able to do a good deed by that compulsion, without a pure intention it won't be accepted by Almighty!!
Thus all we can do is share knowledge, share truth and spread the goodness in the most humble ways as possible and pray for the guidance for us and them, give comfort and be non-judgemental!!
And at some point in time, اِنْشَاءاللّٰه, there can be a very minor reason for someone to change; sometimes a part of Quranic Ayât or a Hadith; sometimes a mannerism of someone who are guided; sometimes a calamity that came their way; a blessing that changed their life; sometimes even a gesture; or a thought that flashed by our mind for a fraction of a second and the like!! It's all purely from Allah (سبحانه و تعالي)' decision! سبحان الله
However, I would like to quote very few shareable reasons from my life which acted as a stimulus, by Allah(سبحانه و تعالي)'s grace, for a good change in my life! الحمد لله! The first and foremost being 'the realization of PURPOSE' which I've shared in a post before (http://thelazyexcogitator.blogspot.in/2015/04/purpose.html).
May Allah (سبحانه و تعالي) help to bring more such reasons in our lives to bring positive changes in us! آمين.
